Alabama cards are issued by local city and county libraries — there is no statewide card. Most libraries serve their own city or county residents free of charge, and many honor cards from neighbors in the same cooperative.
The big story is Camellia Net: 120+ libraries across the state pool their ebooks into one shared Libby catalog, so one Camellia Net card covers them all. Around it sit several separate pools worth collecting: the Jefferson County Library Cooperative (Birmingham, Hoover, Homewood and ~35 metro neighbors share one catalog), the Southeast Alabama Digital Library (Dothan, Enterprise, Opelika and the Wiregrass), the Valley Digital Library (Huntsville-Madison County, Florence-Lauderdale, Guntersville, Oneonta), and tiny Colbert Digital Downloads in the Shoals. The only fully independent Libby collection is Tuscaloosa — Mobile, Montgomery City-County, and Auburn skip Libby entirely in favor of cloudLibrary and hoopla.
