Library cards in Alaska come from your local city or borough library, and residency rules vary: Anchorage, for example, issues free cards only to municipality residents — everyone else pays $50/year — while most smaller communities give cards freely to locals and visitors alike.
The twist: nearly 60 public, school, tribal, and university libraries — including Anchorage, Fairbanks, Mat-Su, and Juneau — pool one shared Libby collection, the Alaska Digital Library. Almost every pin on this map unlocks the same digital catalog, so a single Alaska card is usually all you need; collecting more cards here is about geography bragging rights, not new ebooks.
