Maine library cards are issued town by town, and many libraries charge a fee for people who live outside their service area. There is no statewide card, though the Maine Reciprocal Borrowing program lets cardholders of participating libraries borrow in person elsewhere.
Maine is the odd one out for Libby collectors: the statewide ebook service, the Maine InfoNet Download Library, runs on cloudLibrary rather than Libby, so most Maine cards add nothing to a Libby shelf — those pins are dark on this map. The exceptions worth collecting are Bangor Public Library, Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick, Scarborough Public Library, Kennebunk Free Library, and Rice Public Library in Kittery, which run their own Libby collections, and ten Hancock County libraries (Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, Blue Hill, and neighbors) that pool the shared Hancock County Download Library on Libby.
