New Mexico library cards are issued locally by each city, county, or pueblo library to its own community. The big exception is the state's largest system: Albuquerque/Bernalillo County will issue a card to any New Mexico resident who applies in person, so it's the one card almost every New Mexican can add.
Dozens of smaller libraries across the state — from Taos and Gallup to Carlsbad and Clovis — pool their ebooks in one shared New Mexico Library To Go Libby collection, so one card from any member unlocks the same catalog. The separate collections worth collecting are the six independents: Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Rio Rancho, Farmington, and Los Alamos County.
The map shows card-issuing library systems (not individual branches). Hobbs is a special case: its Libby collection is the Estacado Library Information Network, pooled with the city's college libraries rather than with other public systems.
