Most North Carolina systems issue free cards to any state resident, and many belong to NC Cardinal, a shared physical catalog where one card works at every member library. Digital collections are a different story — Libby access follows your card's home system, so extra cards genuinely add ebooks here.
Libby splits four ways: the North Carolina Digital Library pools about two dozen systems (Buncombe, Forsyth, Gaston, Cumberland, New Hanover and more), the E-iNC Library pools nearly forty mostly-rural systems from the Outer Banks to the Smokies, and the Appalachian and Northwestern regional libraries share a small catalog in the northwest corner. The big metro systems — Wake County, Charlotte Mecklenburg, Durham, Greensboro and a dozen others — each run their own independent Libby collections, and those are the cards most worth collecting.
Each pin is a card-issuing system (regional libraries covering several counties get one pin). A statewide kids-only pool, NC Kids Digital Library, is available through most systems and isn't shown separately.
